Gary Cook

      Jenison High School

Fame having coached Jenison’s baseball team for 32 years. During that time, he lead Jenison to 18 O.K. RED Championships, 12 District Championships, 8 Regional Championships, 6 Final Four appearances and 2 Runner Ups. He also coached West Catholic Grand Rapids for a successful season ending in an O.K. BLUE championship. Total, his win loss record, is 802-206, the 6th all time in the state and 1st in West Michigan.

Gary’s dedication to fundamentals and pride in program instilled each player with respect for each other, the team, the facility and equipment. Every player was drilled to be their best at all times and did whatever they could to make him proud. A previous player for Gary, now the baseball coach since his departure, has affectionately copied many of his practices and emulated his style.

Over his years of coaching, Gary has been honored with such awards as Michigan “Dream Team” Coach of the Year, Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, National Coach of the Year, Central States Coach of the Year, 17 District Coach of the Year Awards and 12 Regional Coach of the Year Awards, and was coach of the East West All Star Game at Tiger Stadium. It’s clear from all of his accolades, most specifically his Jenison Baseball Field Dedication that he has impacted the lives of many men on and beyond the field.

“Gary would say his number one achievement is the number of men who became successful husbands and fathers. Gary is still passionate about the game of baseball; however, his real passion and energies are now directed to his children and grandchildren.”
