Roger H. Bunton has been a coach and teacher
in the L’Anse Creuse School District for 35 years contributing to
a combined total of 49 seasons of coaching in many sports – most
notably lacrosse. Bunton founded one of the original lacrosse
programs in the state. From that time on he was generous with his
time and knowledge in jumpstarting the sport statewide at schools
such as De La Salle Collegiate. In addition, he has served as a
high school official and sponsored multiple high school clubs and
organizations. He is currently serving as the Mount Clemens City
Commissioner for a second term.
Roger is a big believer in sportsmanship
and contributing to the community as evidenced by his 5 years as a
social worker with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Macomb
County, 5 years directing the summer recreation program and his
time spent instructing youth at Macomb County Youth Home, as well
as his volunteer work with his church. He has been described as
the epitome of good sportsmanship personally and with his players.
Bunton has received many honors. He is a
member of the Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame, US Lacrosse
Michigan Chapter Hall of Fame, Michigan, Michigan High School
Lacrosse Hall of Fame and was awarded Michigan High School Coaches
Association Coach of the Year. Even now, Bunton’s service to the
state of Michigan and his community continue to inspire his
colleagues and players.
